Fuchsia Angel Earring Series
Ahhh, those beautiful fuchsias, you know the ones you see when you travel to Washington or Oregon, the ones that bask in those cool sunny days. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to grow a fuchsia in sunny hot north Texas?
Help has come our way. A more heat tolerant series has been created. The series is called Angel Earring. The parentage involves heat loving species native to Brazil (Fuchsia regia and Fuchsia glazioviana). Now, these are not the large double, frilly blooms you may have swooned over while traveling to cooler locales, but this series allows us the opportunity to grow a fuchsia in north Texas.
Angel Earring Snow Fire is a single type bloom with hot pink sepals and a dangling white corolla. The habit is upright, compact, bushy and grows about 15” tall and wide.
Angel Earring Cascading is also a single bloom, with hot pink sepals and a dangling purple corolla. It has a trailing habit with about the same dimensions as Snow Fire, 15” tall and 15” wide.
In spring these fuchsia grow in full north Texas sun, but as spring and summer days heat up it is wise to give afternoon shade, then full shade in the heat of summer. It is important to keep the soil rich, evenly moist but well drained. Fertilize regularly, along with your other seasonal color.
