Height: 2′
Width: 2′

Sprightly butterfly-like flowers flutter high above basal foliage on delicate wispy, wands. This sun-loving, heat-loving Texas native provides summer color while enticing bees and butterflies to the garden. This tame wild flower makes an excellent filler flower adding a whimsical, light texture to the landscape.
Ferdinand Lindheimer, the Father of Texas Botany, discovered Gaura while collecting plants in Texas for two famous botanists, George Engelmann and a Harvard professor Dr. Asa Gray. Today, you can visit Lindheimer’s old home, museum and botanical garden on the bank on the Comal River in New Braunfels, Texas. The garden is full of his discoveries, including the famous ornamental grass Muhlenbergia lindheimeri. Recently, botanists have reclassified Gaura lindheimeri as Oenothera lindheimeri.
This plant is rich with Texas history and provides outstanding garden performance. Don’t let Gaura’s soft, airy appearance fool you, because it’s Texas tough!
